Prehistoric human remains found in Mayes County?
4-11-2012

Prehistoric human remains may have been found on private property within the project boundary of the Markham Ferry Dam Project in Mayes County, according to a press release from Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA).

The GRDA announced today that on Sunday evening, April 8, it secured a site south of Langley where the remains were discovered by the property owner.

At this time, GRDA continues to provide monitoring and security at the site and is working with other state agencies, including the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office, as well as the Native American tribes, to assess the scene.

The site is being secured for further examination and out of respect for the remains.

GRDA has not released any photographs of the scene.

Photographs that have been released were taken prior to GRDA notification of the discovery.
